Employee sues radio station for breach of contract

In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, parties enter into contracts for various reasons. A contract is a legally binding agreement between two or more parties. The agreement creates certain obligations between the parties. If either party fails to fulfill their end of the agreement, that party is in breach of the contract.

For instance, a former employee of a radio station is suing his employer for breach of contract. In 2008, the former employee, who was a technology reporter for the station, signed a five-year deal with the radio station. Two years later his contract was terminated. The employee was told, however, that the agreement would be renegotiated and that he would be paid a reduced amount. Then in 2011, the employee was told he would not appear on the air anymore. The plaintiff is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages and attorney's fees as a result of the breach.

If a party to a contract fails to fulfill their end of the agreement, that party is in violation of the contract terms. The non-breaching party may be able to bring a lawsuit against the breaching party. The non-breaching party may seek to either enforce the agreement or recover damages for any financial harm the party sustained as a result of the breach.

Violating a contract's terms can cause serious financial injury to the breaching party. Here, if the court finds that the radio station breached its employment contract with the plaintiff, the employee may be entitled to damages for the financial harm he sustained.
