Hiring reputable contractors in Louisiana is no guarantee that you will never become involved in real estate litigation. Even so, it is one way to prevent the likelihood of finding yourself in this position. But, how do you know if a contractor will provide high quality work and operate ethically?
Unfortunately, there is no foolproof way to know for sure. Nevertheless, there are some key features to look out for and easy steps you can follow. See a few of these below.
Do not rely on price
Home renovations and constructions can be expensive. Because of this, it might be tempting to make a decision based on all the money you can save. However, the old saying that you get what you pay for may come back to haunt you. Keep in mind that this does not mean high prices equal high-quality work either.
Check their work
Forbes recommends checking the contractor’s work to see real quality, even if they are referred by a family member or friend. Take a look at some of the projects they have completed, whether in person or via their website. Beautiful work does not always equal happy customers though, so be sure to see what people have to say about their experiences with the company.
Review the contract
Finally, always have a written contract in place, but do not just sign whatever they offer you. Read through all of it, including the fine print. Your home is a big investment and you need to know exactly what you are agreeing to before you sign on the dotted line.
If there is something you do not agree with, bring this up with the contractor as soon as possible. How they handle this situation may tell you a lot about how they may deal with disputes in the future.
